When Can You Have Sex After Vaginal Filler? Bathing, Exercise and Warning Signs
One of the most common questions after a vaginal filler procedure is “When can I have sex again?” There is no single answer. The reference points are the instructions for use (IFU) of the product used and the advice of the clinician who treated you. Even among “vaginal fillers,” guidance can differ by product and technique. This post is general information on what to ask beforehand, common reactions, and symptoms that mean you should contact your clinic right away.
1. Ask about sex, bathing and exercise before your procedure
It is easy to miss instructions right after a procedure. Ask these questions at your consultation and write down the answers.
- When can I have sex again? What about tampons or other products used inside the vagina?
- When can I take a bath, use a sauna or go swimming?
- When can I return to strenuous exercise or activities that put pressure on the perineum, such as cycling?
- When is my follow-up visit? Whom do I contact if something happens outside clinic hours?
2. Winkfeel Hera: the IFU states specific periods
The Winkfeel Hera IFU (Korean MFDS approval No. 13-1648, February 2023 edition) recommends avoiding tub baths for 1 week and refraining from sex for 2 weeks after the procedure. Your clinician may advise differently based on your condition, so follow your clinic’s instructions first. Do not apply these periods to other products.
The approved purpose of Hera and the scope of its clinical data are explained (in Korean) on the DexWon website: Winkfeel Hera approval details, clinical data and consultation questions (Korean).
3. Common reactions
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) explains that side effects such as swelling and bruising usually appear shortly after filler injection and many resolve within a few days to weeks. Pain, tenderness and itching are also listed as common. This is general guidance that mainly covers facial fillers, so ask your clinician what is within the normal range for you.
4. Contact your clinic right away if you notice
- Pain that does not ease over time or keeps getting worse
- Fever, or pus-like or foul-smelling discharge
- Bleeding that does not stop, difficulty urinating or severe pain when urinating
- The injection area turning white, gray or bluish
- A new lump or swelling that appears later
Rarely, if you have vision changes, sudden slurred speech, weakness on one side or a severe headache, seek emergency care immediately. The FDA lists these as warning signs of rare but serious complications from unintended injection into a blood vessel.
5. How to report a side effect
First, tell the clinic that treated you about your symptoms, the procedure date and the product name. In Korea, consumers can also report adverse events with medical devices through the MFDS medical device portal’s consumer adverse event report menu (Korean). In the U.S., the FDA accepts voluntary reports through MedWatch.
